What is offered in the Tolono Summer Dance Class? 


Tolono Summer Dance Class offers 4 weeks of either Hip Hop or Pom dance instruction to children from ages 4-21. This year we will also be providing a camp t-shirt, as well as a performance at Tolono Fun Days.  


When and where is class held? 


Tolono Summer Dance Class begins Wednesday June 3rd, 2015 and ends Wednesday June 24th, 2015.  With a final performance at Tolono Fun Days on June 27th before the fireworks.  Classes are every Wednesday, and each class provides one hour of instruction in the genre that aligns with the participant’s grade level. Dance class will be held at Hand in Hand Daycare located at 104 E Vine St. Tolono, IL 61880. 


Times are listed below: 


High School/Young Adult Hip Hop: 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Junior High Hip Hop: 4:00 -5:00 PM

Pre-Kindergarden - 1st Grade Pom: 5:00 - 6:00 PM

2nd Grade - 3rd Grade Pom: 6:00 PM- 7:00 PM

4th Grade - 5th Grade Pom/Hip Hop: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

 

How much is the summer dance class and what is included?


Summer dance class is $65.00, this includes 4 weeks of instruction in the specified genre, a t-shirt, and a performance at Tolono Fun Days.


What if we miss a class or the performance? 

The performance is not mandatory to participate, you may still take class and miss the performance.  If you miss a class, we will do our best to help your child make up what they miss before their performance at Tolono Fun Days.  This program is about having fun, and we want every child to be able to participate! 


How do you sign up?

Who are the dance instructors? 


Marissa Brewer: 


Marissa Brewer, originally from Tuscola, Illinois and a graduate from Villa Grove High School, is a 2014 University of Illinois graduate.  Marissa Brewer received her bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education and additionally holds and an Associates of Arts degree from Parkland college.  At Parkland, Marissa danced for the Parkland Charmers which led her to dance at the UDA National Dance Competition at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Marissa has trained in dance for 20 years and has performed in: hip hop, pom, jazz, lyrical, tap, ballet, and pointe. 


Marissa Brewer has choreographed for the Villa Grove Devilettes her Junior and Senior year of high school, as well as during the 2011-2012 season with Ashley Hettinger.  Marissa Brewer was the volunteer assistant coach to the Villa Grove Devilettes in 2011-2012, and has been the head Coach of the Unity Rockettes from 2012-present. As the coach of the Unity Rockettes Marissa Brewer serves as a choreographer, dance instructor, and dance mother to 20 talented young girls. The Unity Rockettes received 2nd Place in the 2014 and 2015 IDTA State Championships. 




Ashley Hettinger: 


Ashley Hettinger, originally from Philo, Illinois and a graduate from Villa Grove High School, is a 2014 Illinois State University graduate with her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, with a minor in Civic Engagement and Responsibility. At ISU, Ashley was very involved with her college dance team, NOIR Dance Troupe, where she was taught numerous dance styles including: Jazz, Contemporary, African dance, Cash, Vogue, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and other various styles. She was also a member of the Choreography Team her junior and senior years on the dance team. 

  In the summer of 2011, Ashley and Marissa Brewer held a hip-hop dance camp for the Villa Grove Devilettes.  Since then, Ashley has continued to teach choreography and hold summer dance camps for the Villa Grove Devilettes, who have held state championships in IDTA Hip-Hop in 2012, 2014, and 2015.  Beginning in 2012, Ashley has additionally choreographed and taught dance camp for the 2013, 2014, and 2015 junior state champions, the Villa Grove Junior Devilettes.  In the summer of 2012, Ashley also began holding hip-hop dance camps with the Unity Rockettes Dance team, who received 2nd place in the hip-hop category in the 2014 and 2015 IDTA state competitions. Ashley also choreographed the competition routine for the Unity Junior Rockettes in 2015 who received 2nd place in the 2015 IDTA Junior High State Competition. 


Madeline Wilson: 


Madeline Wilson is from Tolono Illinois, and is approaching her senior year and Unity High school. Madeline has been apart of the Unity Rockettes for five years, including the Junior Rockettes team, and the High school team. Madeline has also taken Hip Hop classes at Art in Motion in Champaign. During her years on the Rockettes dance team, Madeline was honored to work with 20 amazing teammates, as they received State runner-up in IDTA Hip Hop in 2014 and 2015. Madeline is currently employed at Hand-in-Hand daycare, where she serves as a teachers assistant in the two, and under class. Following her graduation in 2016 Madeline Wilson plans to continue dance in college.
